R&D+i Projects

With a remarkable experience on this field, TEAMS has participated in several research projects being project leader as well as associated in consortium with other companies. The main focus has always been to form a synergy of collaboration between the research institutions and private companies focusing on testing activities that stay by the side of high technology and leading engineering techniques.

 

R&D+i projects in which TEAMS has participation belong both national and international programs. From TEAMS origins, participation in regional R&D programs for IDEA agency and CTA (Technological Corporation of Andalusia) as well as national R&D programs such as FEDER-INNTERCONECTA or CIEN managed by CDTI (Centro para el Desarrollo Tecnológico Industiral). More recently, TEAMS has participation in European R&D programs as an active member mostly directed towards aeronautic industries. Proof of that is our participation as Partner of a project belonging to CLEAN SKY program and as Core Partners of a project belonging to CLEAN SKY 2 program.

 

Besides research, development and innovation projects dedicated to aerospace sector, R&D+i area is present in other sectors within the context of technological research and innovation such as railway sector. Thus, the company is continuously present at CTF (Centro de Tecnologías Ferroviarias) railway technology center from ADIF with a commercial office and it keeps collaboration agreements in R&D+i aspects with other companies.

SHERLOC

Structural Health Monitoring, Manufacturing and Repair Technologies for Life Management Of Composite Fuselage

R&D+i Projects
Program:

CLEAN SKY 2 – CORE PARTNER.

 

Objectives: 

To combine advanced Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) and smart repair technologies with a probabilistic design philosophy, and hence to develop new maintenance concepts to reduce the direct operative costs without lowering the operational safety of a composite fuselage.

 

 

TEAMS activities in the project:

 

  • Quality Control: Assessment in accordance with predefined quality standards by nondestructive techniques coupon, element and sub-component levels
  • Test bench desing for level 3 components in the building block approach pyramid.
  • Mechanical testing WP including test plans at sub-component, element, detail and coupon levels (levels 3 to 6), definition of load cases and critical structural elements.
  • Testing and verification of repaired panels with smart repair techniques.
  • Review of current maintenance requirements.
  • Development certification procedure.
  • Manufacturing and test applied to regional aircraft fuselage at full-scale.
  • Dissemination and exploitation of results tasks.

WISDOM

Wing structural test development method

 Program:

CLEAN SKY  – PARTNER.

 

Objectives: 

To obtain innovative solutions for design and manufactuing of test bench, method definition and structural test exectuion on two different configurations of external wings in a fixed wing Smart Aircraft.

 

 

TEAMS activities in the project:

 

  • Specimen instrumentation installation and monitoring.
  • Remote data acquisition system. Study and development. LINCE.
  • During test non destructive inspections on specimen.
  • Study and implementation of wireless data acquisition system.
  • Participation in management activities of the project.

Objectives: 

Development of new materials (lowcost and high production), innovative solutions for manufacture and advanced solutions for unions and stuck repairs.

 

 

TEAMS activities in the project:

 

  • Determination of the pore content of carbon fibre laminates using different methods
  • Repair patches monitoring by SHM technology
  • Interlaminar fracture toughness test for different fracture mechanism
  • Testing of hybrid composite-metal coupons with mixed adhesive and rivet unions
  • Testing of repaired composite panels in which the desired failure mechanism is the removing of the patch
  • Numerical simulation to obtain repair patch behaviour

Optimization of duplex stainless steel hot working for the production of low thickness laminates by means of work hardening.

Objectives:

To propose and implement chemical composition and process modifications in order to obtain low thickness duplex products, working under standard manufacturing practices and using just one work hardening step.

 

TEAMS activities in the project:

·        Hot working loads and ductility assessment.

·        Analysis of work hardening fracture due to embrittlement.

·        Valuation and selection of an optimal chemical composition range in order to reduce lamination loads and edge cracking risk.

·        Numerical simulation of the temperature loss depending on thickness reduction profile.

·        Examination of equivalence between forge and lamination processes.

·        Manufacturing of any necessary equipment in order to develop forge process.

·        Recording and assessment of forge testing loads and study of cracking and altered microstructure by means of experimental techniques.

·        Toughness analysis of different chemical composition microstructures.

·        Participation in management activities of the project.

·        Dissemination and exploitation of results tasks.

Development of deployable solar panel for Cubesats and small satellites: design, manufacturing, characterization and validation.

Retos Colaboración 2016

 

Objectives:

To develop deployable solar panel technology for CUBESAT architecture and small satellites, meeting the current market demand related to the power increase of small satellites.

 

TEAMS activities in the project:

·        Definition of deployable solar panel system requirements for satellites.

·        Numerical simulation of solar cell substrate and device joints by means of Finite Element Method (FEM).

·        Manufacturing of substrates and devices. Functional testing on engineering models.
